Project 4: Zine Update

So, I have changed my idea a bit. My latest idea is a zine that has some helpful information on creating a personal comic book. In addition, this zine has some insightful information about the medium such as its history. Here's what I have:

Project 4: Introduction

For this project, my idea for the e-zine is at least a 20 page book of my sketches and concepts. This idea came up while I was thinking about what to draw in my sketchbook and then hit me. I would like to showcase my thought process on how I work on a project as well as my random life sketches. This juxtaposes how I use my sketchbook as a tool for organization as well as a tool for me to draw whatever I see or whatever is in my mind.

Tools required:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
issuu.com

Project 3: Rotoscope Video

First I added the blur effect to the original video, siren sound, and the red flash in After effects. Then, I export the video as a .mov and open it under Photoshop. In photoshop, I used the animation function to draw and edit each individual frame.

Project 3: Rotoscope Idea

For the 20 seconds rotoscoped animation project, my idea is a scene located in a art gallery/museum, where a burglar is running away from security guards.
We begin the scene of a burglar removing a painting off the wall. When the painting is removed, it triggers the alarm in the room. The burglar has an astonished expression on his face and sees the shadows of the security guards and jets off. Trying to catch his breath, the burglar hides behind a wall. The burglar thinks that he completely loses the security guards but when he tries to continue to escape, a security guard is standing right behind him pointing a gun holding handcuffs in the air...

Project 2: Final Update

Sorry, for the late update but here are all the illustrations shown in class today.
They were printed on cream colored cardstock paper. I have used at least one of everyone's vectors in these pieces. Overall, I think it turned out quite nice and I had lots of fun making them. Thanks everyone for your vectors, if you want to want to print out a copy, feel free to do so.

Project 2: Process

For this project, I really don't have a theme but I would like explore different types of compositions by using everyone's vectors. I begin this project with thumbnail sketches of how I want my final piece to look like. As you see, they are not very detail sketches but good enough to resemble the chosen images. Along the way, I made some adjustments to the final piece.

Here is something I have created based on my thumbnails using images from Zander, Iris, Lindsay, Julie, Seth, Mike S., and Ryan.

Next update, I will continue my exploration with composition using other people's images.

Project 1: Final Layouts

First, I apologize that I do not have access to a digital camera yet. However, I have completed the assembling of my fish. I have provided a variety of Fishes Layouts. They come in different colors like White, Red, and basically whoever wants to color it can do so with watercolors.

Here is the white version.

Here, I have colored it using watercolorss onto cardstock paper and then I scanned them back into the computer.

The materials and tools needed to create my fish are:
Computer paper or Cardstock paper
Scissors or X-Acto Knife
Tape or Glue
Watercolors (Optional)

Project 1 Update: Illustrator

Constructing the body of the Koi fish was a challenge for me. From the original sketch, it seemed easy and made sense that it was possible to do, however, after many trials, it did not worked the way I wanted. So, I had changed the body structure. I made up another sketch and it had proven to work better than the previous one. Below are images from sketches and Illustrator framework.

Here are the new sketch of the body:

After I have tested this sketch out. I have created a cleaner version on Illustrator (second image):

Next update: I will add colors and scales on the body. For the colors I was thinking about using watercolor and sumi-e style inks similar to what is used in the scroll paintings previously discussed.

Project 1 Process: Sketch

Inside my house, there are plenty of Asian artworks such as Chinese Scroll Paintings, Japanese Woodblock Prints, and miniature sculptures from Vietnam. Out of all the artworks in my house, I find the Koi fish Scroll Painting to be the most interesting. In Asian cultures it is said that Koi fishes are a symbol of courage, good fortune, and determination. So I was thinking if we all make one for ourselves, maybe we will aquire their attributes as well? Anywho, lets move on to the process shall we?

First, I have created a small sketch of a side view and and frontal view of a Koi Fish.

Next, I have created another sketch, that breaks down the body of the Koi fish into pieces. Instead of having my fish look "boxy" I wanted my fish to have a bit more geometric volume to the form.

Note: for the fins, it will be required to have an x-acto knife to create a slit for the fins to connect. (This will allude to the 3-dimensional form.)

To sum up this blog post, I have laid out my idea into sketches. Now, figuring out how to create the shapes in a flat surface will be the most challenging part.

Next Update: I will have Adobe Illustrator layouts available.
